Our 4th Gawad Alternatibo Selection

 Wetsitales Celebrates 4th Gawad Alternatibo Selection with Wetsitales : Agyu from Ayuman (Omnibus Version) 

Wetsipon Workshop proudly celebrates another milestone as Wetsitales: Agyu from Ayuman (Omnibus Version) has been selected for Gawad Alternatibo, marking the fourth time Jade Dandan Evangelista’s Wetsitales series has been presented in the festival’s programming. 

Since 2022, Wetsitales has brought Philippine oral traditions, folktales, and regional stories to screen through short animated films created by the daughter-mother team of Jade and Nina Dandan Evangelista. The series began its Gawad Alternatibo journey in 2022, when Jade, then 10 years old, had three films screened: Wetsitales: Aponibolinayen and the Sun (Official Selection,) Wetsitales: How the Moon and Stars Came to Be, and Wetsitales: The Flood Story. 

In 2023, three more Wetsitales films followed: The Monkey and the Turtle, The Story of Kanag (Official Selection,) and Why the Sky Is High. In 2024, the series returned with Wetsitales: Mengal Kapitan Tercero. This 2026 selection continues that journey with Wetsitales: Agyu from Ayuman (Omnibus Version), a folktale adventure from Bukidnon. 

For Wetsipon Workshop, this recognition is both a celebration and a reminder: the work of researching, retelling, archiving, and sharing Philippine folk culture continues. Being part of Gawad Alternatibo during the Cinemalaya season is a meaningful opportunity to reconnect with the local independent film community and with audiences who believe in preserving stories for future generations. 

About Wetsitales: Agyu from Ayuman (Omnibus Version) 

Agyu from Ayuman follows Agyu, one of the three sons of Pamulaw, as he leads his household, protects his family’s livelihood, and safeguards his people. After a misunderstanding with the head of the Moros over trade involving beeswax and honey, a series of conflicts begins between the two camps. 

Through each encounter, Agyu’s strategic leadership helps his people endure and prevail. As the journey continues, he is later joined by his son, whose skill in warfare strengthens their path forward. Together, they travel in search of the peaceful kingdom of Nalandangan, facing more encounters along the way before finally finding peace and prosperity for their family and community.

 

About Wetsipon Workshop 

Wetsipon Workshop is a learner-led daughter-mother tandem by Jade and Nina Dandan Evangelista. Through Wetsitales, they create short animated films that retell Philippine folktales and oral traditions from the regions, with the hope of encouraging the next generation to look back, appreciate, and preserve Filipino culture.

Our Music Journey So Far

W hen I was young,  I was lucky to have access to music in different forms and styles.  It was so accessible we actually took it for granted and for a time,  wasted the opportunity.   My mother was a piano teacher,  the best basic piano teacher in our small town.  She knows how to make a person play a musical instrument with information that sticks as a core memory.  Not just the easy playing style that would make you copy playing a piece and when the session ends you will never play the instrument again.  She is good in theory and possibly child psychology or people reading she can customize a curriculum so that you can eventually play the instrument,  find your own time to go back again, and still could play and progress even after the session.    However,  she was my mother and I never was into making music as a passion so I didn't like my Saturday playtime and TV time stopped by piano practice and lessons during my you...

Dino all

J's 7th year creativity is a mishmash of many characters : Pandas, Larva, Sharks, Sesame Street Monsters.. but one of the stand outs for this year is her original characters from a collection she initially called Dino All!  The Dino All characters are cutified and with anthromorphic features.  Prior to this she was into dinosaurs in the encyclopedia sense where she could highlight and draw the characteristics, differences like a true geek.  And then the magic happened. Maybe because of Barney or just the fascination of the diversity.  Here are my favorites : Playing with clay.  Hints of Dino All characteristics Barneyish Can you see personality? Back to Blogging : Our Homeschool Journey

W elcome back to my blog.. and welcome back to me.. hehe.  I have been thinking about going back to blogging with the current advocacy much worth my mumblings.   This time I will be sharing our homeschool journey after being a veteran of 4 years completing a milestone and having my daughter recently finish elementary. What started me from homeschooling?  Many things,  but mostly because I realize learning is not a one size fits all.   It is a long story to tell,  it is not just one reason.  It may need to take up a whole blog session.   I saw that my daughter has potential but I can see that regular school needs to maintain a certain speed for most to follow.  The speed seems to be a pace that my daughter gets bored with,  to allow her to be within the speed limit, the school...
